Which Macs support OpenCore Legacy Patcher?

The maximum macOS version OpenCore Legacy Patcher can reasonably bring to each Mac model family. This is a compiled reference — the OCLP patcher itself will detect your exact SMBIOS and tell you what's available on your specific Mac.

Maximum macOS by Mac model

The table below lists every Mac model family OpenCore Legacy Patcher can patch — from the 2007 iMac through the 2017 iMac Pro era — along with the highest macOS version (Big Sur, Monterey, Ventura, Sonoma, or Sequoia) OCLP can install on that hardware. Most Macs from late 2012 onward can run all the way up to macOS 15 Sequoia.

Supported Macs and the maximum macOS version each can run via OpenCore Legacy Patcher.

Source: the official Dortania supported-models reference. Within each family, some specific configurations (e.g. legacy Metal GPUs, dual-GPU iMacs, T1-chip MacBook Pros) have caveats — the OCLP patcher will flag them at install time. Always verify against the upstream guide for your specific Mac before patching.

A few notes on edge cases

  • 2009–2010 Mac Pro firmware upgrade. The 2009 Mac Pro (MacPro4,1) can be reflashed to MacPro5,1 firmware, which extends its supported OS ceiling significantly. Dortania documents the procedure.
  • T1 chip Macs (2016/2017 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar) have historically had quirks on macOS 14.4+ and 15.5 — both are fixed as of OCLP v2.4.x.
  • USB-1.1 cameras on early Intel models needed a dedicated patch — landed in OCLP v2.4.0 for Sequoia.
  • Apple Silicon Macs do not need OCLP. They are still officially supported by Apple and do not require OpenCore Legacy Patcher.

In short: which Macs support OCLP?

If your Mac is an Intel iMac, MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac mini, Mac Pro, or Xserve from 2007 or later and Apple has dropped it from the supported list for current macOS, OpenCore Legacy Patcher almost certainly has you covered. To find the maximum macOS version for your specific Mac, look up your model in the table above, or just run the OCLP app — it inspects your SMBIOS and tells you exactly what's possible.
